The Open Letter To The Prospective 360 Performer
Although Company 360 is a safe space for dancers of all bodies we do believe in crafting the best talent to create movements within movement.
Therefore, as Company 360 rises and continues to rebuild into this new season and beyond, auditioning dancers (at the Training and Pro level) should be able to do the following:
-
A clean double pirouette, en dehors.
-
A clean sequence of chaîné turns
-
A basic développé of their leg with appropriate alignment (not height)
Not only do these things matter to the lines and lineage of what Company is reaching towards, it matters to your health and safety.
Company 360 takes the health of their dancer's seriously. Additionally we look for dancers with an intellectual understanding of technique, a deep passion for the performing arts, and clear communication and self advocacy skills as these are paramount for future learning, growing and grand jeté-ing.
None of us will be perfect but we want to work together to make sure you are dancing your very best, while honoring your personal body.
So, yes, even though we expect our Company dancers to be able to execute a clean double pirouette and naturally point their feet when they leave the floor, what will make us different, and what we are truly looking for, is your emotion, your passion, and your storytelling.

The Three Pillars of the Company 360 Dance Theatre Culture
From the very first days of Company 360 we have worked tirelessly to ensure that it feels different; that Company 360 becomes the breath of fresh air in a too-long-stagnant art form. As we push through stereotypes, shatter entrenched expectations, and create art that matters, we continue to come back the following foundational pillars. As organizational leaders we can only hold these torches so high. Any performer, crew member, and volunteer should be at minimum familiar, and on board with, the following three driving forces.
Art

Company 360 will operate as an art-first organization, prioritizing quality and expression ahead of stigma and societal expectation.
Advocacy

Company 360 will strive to create movement through movement and lend our art to raise awareness wherever we can.
Access

Company 360 will represent equity in the arts; creating a community of respect and equity for our artists, supporters, audiences and community.
Our Performance Companies

Professional
To be a part of our Professional Company, dancers must support our mission, be exceptional performers, and believe in the culture of equity and accessibility. Additionally, they must be at least 18 years old.
Dancers are expected to attend rehearsals every Sunday evening. If you are wanting to get back into dance, but not sure if you are ready for the commitment of Pro Co, please check out our weekly Community360 classes.

Weekly Commitment:
Sundays (August 13th - October 8th)

Within our Pro Co, dancers who have demonstrated true devotion to our mission, a tireless work ethic, incomparable stage presence, and remarkable skill are invited to join our Core company. These dancers rehearse up to 10 hours each week, and represent the company as a whole at local events and performances throughout the year.
Pre-Professional
Our Pre-Professional Company is a unique opportunity for promising performers to gain additional training and rehearsal time under the mentorship of our Core dancers. They are provided additional opportunities to perform with our Core professionals, as well as their own group dances in each show.

All Pre-Professionals shall perform at least one show with us as a Trainee before being invited to join. Consideration is based upon talent, training, and tenure put into Company as a whole, as well as role modeling, relationship, and reverence towards others.

Weekly Commitment:
Sundays (August 6th - October 8th)
2:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Tuesdays (August 15th - October 17th)
4:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Thursdays (August 17th - October 19th)
4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Training Company
Established initially as a small troupe of support performers to our Professional Company, our Training Company has grown in number, talent, and responsibility. We continue the forward momentum for this group by offering expanded opportunities for our Trainees.

We support and work in partnership with local dance studios and performing arts organizations by offering a low-commitment, once-a-week track for dancers on Sunday afternoons. In addition to a one-hour class, trainees learn and rehearse together for an hour and a half each week.

Dancers seeking greater performance opportunities and training will rehearse additional dances two hours each week with the Pre-Professional Company.

Weekly Commitment:
Sundays (August 13th - October 8th)
2:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Additional Commitment:
Tuesdays and Thursdays (August 15th - October 19th)
4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Youth Company
For those younger members of the greater Company 360 community, we also offer the opportunity to join a small group of dedicated Youth performers. This group has the unique ability and responsibility to represent the younger roles in our storytelling, something that an older trainee or adult could never do.
Our Youth performers will rehearse only one day a week, on Sundays, as well as receive an hour of class with our trainees and pre-professionals.

Weekly Commitment:
Sundays (August 13th - October 8th)
1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

FAQ
What Do I Wear To Auditions?

Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable. After our season begins, Company 360 wears all black on Sundays for uniformity and cleanliness of line, with hair back from your face as best possible for your texture. For auditions, we want to know who you are and see you feeling as confident as possible. Company typically rehearses in socks, but bare feet or dance shoe of choice is also welcome.
When should I arrive?
Please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the beginning of auditions to fill out Company forms. If you are under the age of 18, you will need to arrive with your parent or guardian so that the forms may be signed. Additionally, you may want to use this time to stretch and ensure you're ready to dance.
What happens at auditions?

First, you'll meet the Artistic Staff and learn a little more about what we do, as well as the show that is to come. Then, after a brief 3 song warm-up, you will learn at least 2 different combinations of varying styles, and perform them in a variety of groupings. We know that some dancers might be feeling rusty or nervous, so we approach every audition with compassion and understanding.
What happens after auditions?

You will receive an email within 3 days of your audition letting you know what we would like to offer. Your email will include your contract, an overview of our policies and procedures, and a rundown of the season, which includes the schedule, show synopsis, and what you have to look forward to. We will then request that you accept or kindly decline our offer within 48 hours following receipt of your offer email.
What is the schedule for the fall?

Our eventual goal is to pay our professional dancers a small stipend each show. For now, we express our gratitude to our pros for committing their time and energy to produce professional-level dance theatre productions by expanding our perks.

*Due to our mission to make dance a more accessible and inclusive art form, Company 360 awards a variety of scholarships each season. Our goal is to never turn a dancer away because they are unable pay for classes or training. Please come to auditions and email our executive director Sam Barrett (sam@companythreesixty.org) to discuss our financial assistance options.
I'll be a parent of a Youth or Training Company member. What is required of me?

Beyond supporting the financial commitment, there's no expectation of involvement. If you would like to volunteer, please contact our executive director Sam (sam@companythreesixty.org), but such involvement will not be tied to your dancer's engagement with Company 360.

Additionally, to thank parents for supporting our company and their child's artistic endeavors, we are offering each family of a 360 dancer two free tickets to see NINE.
